TO KNOW CHRIST
The season of Christmas lasts twelve days as we celebrate the birth of our Savior. Then we begin Epiphany, where the light of Christ spreads out to the world with the day of Epiphany beginning with the account of the wise men visiting the Christ child. From there we move quickly ahead to Christ's baptism and the continued revelation of Him who is the Light in this dark world. In February, we wil begin the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday. We begin a 40 day journey (not counting Sundays) as we follow Christ to the cross, but the path of sorrow and death leads to Easter Sunday and the resurrection.
We know Christ through the means He gives us--His Word and the visible Word (the Sacraments)! We learn of Him in Divine Service where God speaks and we listen. We have two services each week. The primary one is on Sunday. A secondary service is held of Wednesdays for those who miss Sunday and for further opportunity to receive God's blessings. The Wednesday night service is usually less formal and shorter (about 1/2 hour). We respond to God's message of Law and Gospel with thanks and praise and prayers. We also continue to grow as we study His Word in Sunday school, Bible study, and confirmation classes.
TO MAKE HIM KNOWN
We make Christ known in our daily lives! Because of God's help and His Spirit we show forth Christ in our lives. As Jesus did acts of mercy for others, so we also show mercy. We begin where God has placed us in our homes and in our work. We have various responsibilities whether we are a parent, child, sibling, grandparent, citizen, employer, employee, church member, etc. In these various roles in our daily life, we encounter our neighbor in need and serve them.
Here are some of the agencies we have further supported throughout the past year:
* Make a World for Christ (MAWFC) - remodelling and new construction at Lutheran Island Camp (LIC) near Henning, MN; support of a Lutheran seminary in India, support of a Lutheran presence in Wittenberg, Germany, and support of medical aid to various African countries.
* Northern Crossing Mercy - This also has information about our Minnesota North District mission projects.
* Various funds for individuals in need or suffering from a crisis!
* Our quilting group provides quilts to a number of different organizations (local shelters, camps, and world missions)!
We show God's mercy and love in our daily lives as we live the roles into which we are called and placed!
